From Prof. Greg Bowman, Folding@home’s new co-director

I want to thank Prof. Pande for his leadership and generous support of his trainees over the past 20 years. During that time, Folding@home has served as a unique scientific resource, harnessing unprecedented computational power to tackle some of science’s greatest challenges. Since Prof. Pande founded Folding@home, a number of graduates from his lab have continued to participate in the project from a broad range of universities and research institutes, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Washington University in St. Louis, Temple University, and the Hong Kong University for Science and Technology. In addition to ongoing basic research on processes like protein folding, Folding@home is now powering insights into a wide range of diseases, including Alzheimer’s, cancer, antibiotic resistant infections, and Ebola.

The broadened scope of Folding@home means there is a lot going on, and I am eager to join Prof. Pande as a co-director to help manage the project and ensure that participating in Folding@home is a great experience for all of our volunteers. My colleagues and I are very grateful for everyone’s participation in the project, and I look forward to working with you to drive important scientific discoveries.
