When Folding Power slider option is set to “Only when idle,” the screensaver is used to activate Folding@home once the system is idle. This means the software is paused when you are using your computer, and resumes folding when you are away. This effectively guarantees that folding will not interrupt any other applications or video games, but the disadvantage is the folding process is less productive overall. The screensaver appears for all of the slider settings and shows a 3D rendering of the protein your computer is currently working on.
The Folding@home screensaver is configured identically to any other screensaver. In Windows, one way to change its settings is to
- Right-click on the desktop
- Choose “Personalize”
- Click “Screen Saver”
- Adjust the amount of time to wait before the screen saver activates.
Please note the screensaver is not yet available on OS X.
