Teams
A team pools the points of everyone folding under one team number, so a group can climb the public leaderboards together. Companies, universities, forums, streamers, and groups of friends all run them. Joining a team doesn't change the science your machine does — it just decides whose total your points add to.
Do I need a team?
No — a team is optional. Leave your team number at 0 and you fold under no team, with your points counting only toward your own donor total. You can join or switch teams whenever you like, but you're only ever on one team at a time.
How do I join a team?
Get the team's number from whoever runs it, or find one on the team leaderboard. Enter it as your Team in Web Control — in Account Settings if you use a Folding@home Account, or in each machine's Machine Settings if you don't. Save, and your points start counting toward that team on the next work unit you return. See Points, stats & passkey for how usernames, teams, and points fit together.
Multiple machines — and multiple donors — can fold under the same team; their points all add together.
How do I create a team?
Team creation lives in the v8 client, under Settings → Teams in Web Control. Because teams belong to your account, you'll need to be signed in to a Folding@home Account first (see Getting started if you don't have one — it's free). The v8.5 client guide walks through creating and managing a team step by step, with screenshots.
